Screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!

Oh the days of adulthood.  Do you remember how much, when you were just a wee thing, you looked forward to when you'd be all grown up and could make your own decisions?  Boy do I wish I'd known better than that.  I feel like telling my nephew to take advantage while he can...unfortunately, I have to be adult about it and try to be a good influence on him.  Dammit all to hell.

The beginning of adulthood, for me, wasn't very mature.  Too much debt, not enough school, too much drinking for a while there and many, many bad habits.  All those childish endeavors are awful hard to leave behind.  And once you are all grown up, you've got whatever your version of Jiminy Cricket is, sitting on your shoulder, shouting in your ear to do the right thing and you just don't wanna!  But you do.  Because you must.  Because you really do not want to be like those people who never grow up.  You just have to hope you can keep your sense of humor and your trickster ways...just a little bit.  You don't want to be so grown up that you don't enjoy life anymore, but you start to feel ((gasp!)) responsible for things and people and your own actions.  How mortifying.

Some of us ((pointing at myself sheepishly)) seem to need something with a big impact to start the growing up process.  Maybe it happens more to those of us who had to deal with some rather hard adult situations growing up?  I'm probably just making excuses.  This growing up thing is hard! ...says the 35 year old.
