Camogli

Tomorrow we're set to take the train from Stazione Brignole to Camogli, a fishing village outside of Genoa.  Camogli has become a bit of a tourist spot, so hopefully it won't be too crowded.  The locals will be in church or at home and all the stores will be closed, so that should help except for those who just want a nice beach to hang out on.  The restaurants will be open and I'm looking forward to seeing the houses, many of which have trompe l'oeil treatments.  I can't wait to get out on the water and there is a ferry out there, but the train is easier to deal with and my mom and stepdad haven't been feeling well.  We're leaving the sea and any long voyages (Florence, Turin, Portovenere and hopefully France, since Nice isn't too far by train) for the next two weeks.

The scene of the crime

It will be wonderful to go walking for more than groceries or taking the dog, Morgan, for a bathroom break.  I was going stir crazy today, so I took him on a really long walk in the neighborhood.  I stopped to take a picture and he stopped to take a poop.  It was awful and smelly and I gagged while I cleaned it off the mattelone and dumped my entire bottle of water on the ground to wash it away.  Puppy needs more rice in his diet.

Salita Contardo

After that, he was perfectly happy, so we went down Salita Contardo, which is a long street of short but deep and wide stairs made of cobblestones (mattelone).  The best way to get your heart going and some sweat on your brow is to climb up those suckers.

Getting out gave me the opportunity to take a few pictures of the neighborhood, when Morgan wasn't pulling me quickly along to the next thing he just had to smell.

There don't seem to be any clear views of Castello Mackenzie, our local Scottish-Italian castle

  2. That might be a different one, I took these from the street instead of from the apartment. When we take a taxi up to the building, we take a ton of windy roads, which is a bit thrilling... When walking Morgan, if I go down Cesare Cabella instead of toward Salita Contardo, I can see all kinds of the tops of things. And there are a gazillion rooftop gardens. And I'm jealous of all of them.
